Carrot 63"3" x 5"Crop Rotation Group Well drained soil rich in organic matter, but with no manure added prior to planting. Use well aged compost or vermicompost to condition compacted soil. Sun or partial afternoon shade oil quality is more essential that supplemental feeding. Companion; Chives, Potatoes, Leek, Lettuce, Peas, Radish, Rosemary, Sage, Tomato, Onion and Onions. Spacing; Single Plants: 0' 4" each way (minimum) Keep plants well weeded to reduce competition for nutrients are water. Mulch over the tops of mature carrots to keep their shoulders from turning green. iruses, nematodes, and soil-borne diseases can cause roots to become gnarled or misshapen. Chives (Garlic) 495"5" x 7"Feeding; Not generally needed. Companions; Oregano, Thyme, Carrot, Tomato, Grape Vine and Rose. Also, other mound-forming herbs. Spacing; 0' 6" each way (minimum) Notes;Garlic chives produce white, lightly scented flowers in late summer. Gather them for use as cut flowers to keep garlic chives from reseeding. Like regular chives, garlic chives can become invasive. Sow and Harvest; Start with a purchased plant, or start seeds indoors and set out at about the time of your last frost. Plants spaced 6 inches (15 cm) apart will grow into a solid mass in 3 years.Harvest; Do not harvest in the first year. In spring, gather handfuls of greens for use in the kitchen. The leaves become somewhat tough in summer. Troubleshooting; Deadhead garlic chives to limit reseeding

Oregano 17"5" x 9"Feeding;Not generally needed. Tomato, Pepper and Broccoli. Frequent pinching back helps to keep plants bushy and full, and it delays flowering. Some strains are grown for their pretty pink flowers. Oregano often spreads in hospitable spots. Moderately invasive. Control oregano's spread by cutting back flowering stems when their colors fade.

Rosemary 17"7" x 7"Feeding; Drench plants with a water soluble organic plant food one month after setting them out. Beans, Cabbage, Carrot, Sage and Lavender. Spacing; Single Plants: 0' 8" each way (minimum) Rows: 0' 8" with 0' 8" row gap (minimum) Harvest; Gather sprigs as needed in the kitchen. Gather stems for drying from spring to late summer. Issues; Plants are often short-lived, so root stem cuttings each spring to always have vigorous young plants. Treat small outbreaks of powdery mildew with a spray made from 2 Tablespoons milk in 1 cup water.
